“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate”

I’ve always been fond of Shakespeare’s sonnets and other literary works, but I never dared to put meaning into them until that day.

I remember sitting beside you during the first day of class. I remember when you broke your arm and had to go to school in a cast. I remember the times you looked at me when you thought I wasn’t looking. All those meant nothing before.

You see, you used to be someone I constantly teased to this friend of mine, who openly admitted his (yup, HIS) feelings for you. This habit remained the same until my friend stopped attending classes.

I remember how our first genuine conversation started— we were both early for class and the others were nowhere to be seen.You kept asking me questions, and we probably shared a laugh or two. Then a classmate entered and she gave you a teasing look when she saw us talking. Suppose that meant something?

Then one day, when I was about to ride a jeepney,I saw you sitting there, smiling from a distance. Or was it a smirk, I’m not sure. It was awkward being in a ride with you,especially with my friend noticing our ‘conversation.’

The final exam came too fast.I was sitting there, practicing my lines. That was when you came up to me and recited those words from Sonnet 18. “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate.”I could not think of a proper answer, so I just smiled and continued to practice my lines.

For once in my life,I truly felt those words sink in to my heart, as if the Milky Way was colliding with the whole universe. I felt like I stepped into Charlie’s shoes as he begins to walk inside the Chocolate factory. It was as if you gave me a pretty pink balloon, and I want to thank you for that.

It’s not that I want to give meaning as to why you did that, but I am utterly grateful for your act. Those two lines, the sweetest words ever created, are just what a girl wants to hear in her lifetime.

Late announcement, I know, but yes I’m finally done with my sophomore year in college! Or so I think. But I have to admit I’m a bit scared of how my grades would turn out this semester. Academically-wise, I could say this was definitely not my best— I mean I could have exerted more effort in the studying part. Not that I didnt study but you get my point? Like I could have aced that exam instead of just settling with a fair/passing grade?

Also, I think I’m missing my old elementary self- the competitive, driven, and ambitious girl in terms of acad-related stuff. College brought in a lot of the changes in my life. I think I’ve grown as a person,honestly. But it was also in college where I had this personal transition of being the student who’s always aiming for gold, and the one who’s determined yet not fully inspired to do her best.

Whatever the outcome of this sem may be, I promise to keep my head up high and try to do better than what I perceive to be enough. It isn’t too late to achieve that cum laude standing.

This was taken after the workshop last Saturday. Our first ever lunch with the mems. Talked about random things, laughed at the corny-est jokes, and interviewed each other as if we were on ask.fm (except we weren’t anonymous). Just less than a month to go. :-)

On Sembreak and Series

It’s been a really long time since I’ve last wrote an entry here. I’ve been very busy with academic stuff and shifting matters, so you can blame them. Anyway, these past few days I’ve been getting an early dose of sembreak- a marathon of The Lying Game and Awkward in just one week. Now here’s my take:

a. TLG- Honestly, it’s the first time I liked a series more than the book itself. So far. I didn’t give a damn about the show at first- thinking that the plot would be too predictable and the actors, well, not fit for their respective roles. They proved me wrong though. Alexandra Chando was extremely effective as both the characters of Sutton and Emma. I don’t usually hate on the bad sisters, but in this case, Sutton was a real bitch. I couldn’t help but curse her (esp the last few eps), at the same time empathizing for poor Emma.

And this, unpopular opinion, I like Thayer more than Ethan. I mean, he had the chance to be honest, but he blew it up easily. And Thayer, who was totally in love with Emma, chose to take things slowly and be there for her. I just hope that they get together in s2. And I hope they’ll make more episodes. And another season. Okay?

b. Awkward- I instantly got addicted with this show no doubt about it. Yes, it may be about a typical unpopular highschool girl learning to accept herself and falling in love for the first time. But that makes this a hit, right? One show girls can totally relate to, learn life lessons, and get *kilig* vibes over Matty or Jake.

Been shipping Jake and Jenna all along though I know she’s gonna end up with Matty anyway. I mean wtf when they were together, Matty was always part of the story. And deep inside, Jenna was still in love with him. ~~So much for my sinking ship.~~

I hope they get back together in s3 though. Jake’s perfect and Jenna was just blinded by her love for Matty.

I still haven’t studied for my Geography exam on Friday. Our professor said we needed to read a lot, and I’ve only finished probably 1/100 of the reading assignment. Add to that 3 papers plus conceptualizing a creative sigsheet plus planning for our apps’ acquaintance party on Friday. Moreover, I also need to finish 20 hours oftambayand boardwork. Could this get any better?
